Spray Foam Insulation for a 40×60 Metal Shop in Wasilla, AK
We were out in Wasilla spraying a 40×60 metal shop this week.
Big shop.
And a lot of bare metal when we first got there.
The owner was trying to get ahead of winter. He basically told us, “I want to get this thing done before the cold gets here.”
Yep.
Good idea.
This was a spray foam insulation job in Wasilla, AK, and really it was pretty straightforward.
Get in.
Get everything covered.
Get this shop ready for what’s coming.
Because we all know what’s coming.
It was warm when we started
Kind of funny doing a job like this when it’s still pretty warm outside.
You’re standing there spraying foam and talking about winter.
But that’s Alaska.
It sneaks up on you.
The shop itself is 40×60, so there was plenty to do. Once we got everything set up, the guys started working their way through it.
One section at a time.
You could hear the equipment running. That spray hitting the metal. Guys calling back and forth.
Just a normal day for us.
I remember looking down one of those walls thinking we were making pretty good time.
Turns out there was more wall left than I thought.
We almost missed a little section
There was one spot around the framing that didn’t jump out at first.
One of the guys caught it.
“Hey, we need to hit this too.”
Glad he saw it.
It wasn’t anything dramatic. Probably wouldn’t even stand out to most people looking at the building.
But we were already there.
Might as well get it.
That’s usually how these jobs go.
You get into a rhythm. Spray. Move. Check it. Move again.
And then somebody sees something.
The spray foam insulation started changing the look of that shop pretty quick.
Bare metal on one side.
Foam on the other.
That shop is going to be a lot nicer this winter
At some point I noticed the owner standing back looking at what we’d gotten done.
He seemed pretty happy with it.
And that’s really what this job was about.
He has a big metal shop in Wasilla and he doesn’t want to spend the winter trying to get the thing warm.
Can’t blame him.
We’ve sprayed shops and other metal buildings around Wasilla, Palmer and the Mat-Su Valley, and they’re always interesting jobs.
Some are packed with stuff.
Some are brand new.
This one gave us room to move around, which I’ll take any day.
There was a coffee cup sitting off to the side that I swear stayed in the exact same spot the whole time we were there.
No idea whose it was.
Glad he didn’t wait another month
That’s probably the part I remember most about this one.
The timing.
Nobody wants to think about winter yet.
But you know it’s coming.
This owner didn’t wait until the shop was freezing to call us about spray foam insulation in Wasilla.
He got ahead of it.
We finished up, looked everything over and started getting our stuff packed back up.
The shop already looked completely different from when we’d walked in.
That’s a good day.
