Achieving Your Goals with Xtreme Alaska Spray Foam

As Alaskans, we experience the world differently.

We wake with the mountains in our front yards…

Walk with wildlife – bears, moose, even mountain goats…

And measure the passage of time with the running of salmon.

We dance with the Aurora and sing with the Ravens (if you can call it singing).

Alaskans connect with each other and our land in ways that tourists cannot imagine.

But every human, Alaskan or otherwise, comes to this planet to accomplish something.

Part of the journey of life is finding out what our unique purposes are and working to fulfill them using our personal goals.

With intentional goal setting, we can better achieve the things that bring fulfillment to our lives…

And spray foam insulation can help in that work!

Talent Isn’t Everything

Each of us is born with a unique set of gifts and talents.

But talent is not magic. It doesn’t make achieving dreams any less work!

All-star athletes may be talented, but they do not achieve greatness on talent alone. They must put in the work to achieve their dreams.

They must be intentional about how they spend their time, money and calories…

Practice with their teammates…

And be willing to be coached.

Talent alone is worthless unless you work to develop the skills required to climb the mountain of success.

A less talented musician who practices regularly is likely, when the time comes, to out-perform a more talented individual who does not put in the time and effort to progress.

Is talent useless? Of course not!

Our natural gifts help us understand what our lives are meant for, and often help us on our way to achieving our dreams.

But skills, unlike talent, can be learned.

In fact, the skills required for the highest levels of human achievement must be learned. They require development and commitment…

Just like anything worth having in life!

No one is born knowing how to walk, how to speak, how to take care of oneself – we must learn many things as we grow, and continue to learn and develop our beings into adulthood.

Ignoring the important work of developing our talents wastes the gifts we are born with.

But if we are not working toward a goal, it is often differ let to navigate the sea of misinformation and opinion. Without direction, our growth is stunted.

That’s where intentional goal setting comes in – and believe it or not, spray foam can help you achieve those goals!

Setting S.M.A.R.T. Goals

Not all goals are alike.

Have you ever made a New Year’s resolution so vague that you didn’t know how to accomplish it? We’ve all been there. Vague, sweeping goals are lost in the shuffle.

Failing to achieve a poorly planned goal isn’t a reflection of your mindset or even your willingness to work toward achieving it. Goals, if we are serious about achieving them, need structure to be useful!

Setting a S.M.A.R.T. goal is essential to achieving our dreams.

Every goal we are serious about should be…

S – Specific

M – Measurable

A – Achievable

R – Relevant

T – Time-bound

Specific

Goals that are not specific, as alluded to earlier, are quite difficult to achieve. Vague desires rarely get us anywhere. So, be specific when setting your goals – what exactly are you working toward?

Is your dream to go on a sheep hunt, and your relevant goal to save money to purchase a new firearm for that hunt? How much does that firearm cost? Exactly how much money are you trying to raise?

Is your dream to hike Denali after years of inactivity, and your relevant goal to lose weight and build muscle do that successfully? How many pounds do you need to lose? How many minutes do you plan to spend in the gym (doing what, exactly?) to prepare your muscles for the climb?

Most dreams aren’t easy to achieve, but every single one can be broken down into specific goals. One specific goal at a time, your can realize your dreams.

Measurable

Is your goal measurable? How will you know if you are heading in the right direction?

If your goal is to save money to buy a new firearm for that sheep hunt, are you keeping track of the money you’ve saved, and how it compares to the needed funds? The amount of money you have saved is measurable.

If hiking Denali is your dream, and your measure of success building muscle, how will you measure your progress? Perhaps the number of reps when lifting weights can help. Slowly increasing reps are measurable, while a vague notion of strength is not.

Success depends on whether you can tell if you’re making progress on the journey toward the goal.

How will you measure your success with your goal?

Achievable

Successful achievement of a goal requires a reality check.

It is unlikely that you can raise all the funds necessary to purchase a new firearm in one day…

And losing 100 pounds in a month is dangerous.

There’s nothing wrong with challenging yourself, but if you set goals that aren’t realistic – or which are downright impossible – you are setting yourself up for failure.

So.

How much money would be a reasonable, achievable amount to raise during the length of time you set for yourself?

How much weight can you lose safely?

How many reps on the squat machine or the bench press can you reasonably aim for?

Relevant

Breaking down the steps to get to achieve your dream is vital to succeeding – and so is ensuring each goal you set for yourself is relevant to your journey.

If you want to go on a sheep hunt, learning to cook goat meat may not be the best use of your time. That can wait until after you’ve successfully harvested a sheep!

A better goal to work toward is saving money toward the gun you’ll need to use on the hunt, or to start preparing your body for the physical exertion that a sheep hunt – or hiking Denali, for that matter – requires.

Time-Bound

A goal can be specific, measurable, achievable, and relevant, but if you don’t put a time constraint on it, achieving your goal can devolve into a vague notion, rather than a motivating factor in your daily life.

So, when are you trying to go on that sheep hunt or hike that mountain?

When do you need to purchase that firearm or finish preparing your body for hiking to realize your dream?

Does your goal’s timing make sense?

Don’t be afraid to make adjustments if necessary – but the most important part of any journey is the first step…

…and then the next…

…and the next!

You can do it! It’s time to give it a shot!
