Gear Up For Winter with Xtreme Alaska Spray Foam
Alaskans know how to weather winter.
We live through it for most of the year – and that’s why we relish the summers we get!
After a short season with the Midnight Sun, though, the encroaching darkness and colder night air whispers of winter…
And when you’re a spray foam contractor, winter is a tricky season.
Spray foam contractors install foam in buildings (and other structures, like toy trailers) that may not have central heating…
So, to weather the winter successfully, spray foam contractors – and all other Alaskans – have to get creative.
We all need to “gear up” to take on the toughest season in our beloved state.
One of the best ways to gear up for winter is to ensure your home is ready to shelter you and your family from the snow and cold we’ll see this season…
And it just so happens that Xtreme Alaska Spray Foam and other spray foam contractors can help with that…
As long as we have geared up our businesses to work through the winter!
Gearing Up For All Alaskans
Winter isn’t just cold in Alaska; it’s also dark.
So, gearing up for an Alaskan winter involves preparing not just for the cold, but also for the mental effects of prolonged darkness.
To battle seasonal depression and other challenges associated with long winters, Alaskans can install UV lights in their homes and businesses…
Keep active…
Spend as much time outside as possible…
And prioritize time with family and friends to increase feelings of connection and safety.
However, none of the things that help our minds thrive through winter are possible without adequate shelter from Alaskan winter weather…
And that’s where spray foam insulation comes in!
Spray foam is a versatile insulation solution for Alaskans, and it can help you and your family weather winter in many ways…
Such as preventing dangerous ice dams from forming on your roof…
And keeping your crawl space from stealing away all the heat you pay to pump into your home!
Spray foam is the all-around best insulation for Alaskans.
Xtreme Alaska Spray Foam and other Alaskan spray foam contractors work hard to ensure your home is as energy-efficient as possible by installing spray foam…
So you and your family can stay warm all winter….
And so you can save money on your energy bills all year long!
(Psst! You can even get a tax credit for installing spray foam in your home!)
Call Xtreme Alaskan Spray Foam today to discover how spray foam can help you gear up for winter this year – and all the years to come.
Gearing Up for Spray Foam Contractors
Spraying foam is never easy…
But spraying foam in the winter is even more challenging than usual.
There are a lot of plates to keep spinning as a contractor – but one that we rely on the most is the ability to spray when we’ve planned to spray.
To do that, we need reliable spray foam materials and a toolkit of heat management practices that can help us spray on days that aren’t typically considered ideal for foam.
Some days simply aren’t good days for spraying…
But with quality foam materials and good heat management skills, we can turn some of those cold days around!

Heat Management Tips For Spray Foam Contractors
If you’re a contractor needing help with spray foam heat management, take heart. You can do this.
Alaskan weather is not always ideal for spraying foam, but we can use a few tips and tricks to make the ambient air and substrate temperatures more palatable to spray foam materials.
Heat Management Tips:
1) Use space heaters to ensure the substrate (or spray foam receiving surface) is as close as possible to the optimal temperature for receiving foam.
2) Know and use your spray foam manufacturer’s temperature guidelines to understand optimal preheat and hose heat temperatures for your foam blend. Sometimes, the sweet spot is elusive and can take a while to dial in. Don’t give up!
3) Ensure an adequate preheat before you spray each day.
4) Recirculate A-Side while you wait for your system to preheat so your iso is less likely to plug up your spray gun due to crystallization.
5) Use the sun’s warmth as much as possible. Darkness is often colder than light, so shoot to spray during the light part of the day, if at all possible.
6) Use a cold-weather spray foam blend. (Call Xtreme Alaska Spray Foam for more information!)
7) Know when it’s too cold to spray and wait for a warmer day. It’s better to wait than to waste foam material. That’s money going down the drain!
Most importantly, don’t lose heart! You have what it takes to spray foam. Sometimes, the conditions are frustrating, but the results will help Alaskan families for many years. What you do is vital to our community – and worth the wait.
